In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in improving imagination by reading and watching TV in free time. There is a considerable body of opinion which holds that people who read for pleasure in their free time have a better imagination than those who prefer to watch TV. This paper will focus on the reasons why I partly agree with this statement.
On the one hand, reading to enhance imagination is what I consider a crucial factor. It cannot be denied that while we are reading, visualizing words is inevitable. Under those circumstances, people who read for pleasure have the tendency to build their cognitive skills. As a matter of fact, they will be capable of engaging their creativity. This leads to the fact that reading will be able to help us have more imagination.
In the same fashion, reading offers us exposure to many stories. Thanks to this, those who read are likely to learn many different lessons from different stories. As a result, they will be prone to widen their knowledge. This, again, leads to the fact that people who read are able to have a good imagination.
On the flip side, I don’t agree with the use of the word ‘better’. What convinces me is that watching TV also helps us build a good imagination. It is evident that watching TV means accessing information from both images and sound. With this in mind, those who watch TV stand a golden chance to imagine and understand things much easier. Eventually, this probably gives rise to the improvement of their imagination skills. With this in mind, I suggest we should decide which media, reading or watching for pleasure in our free time, depending on our needs, or combine both of them.
In summary, both reading and watching TV can contribute to the development of imagination. However, the effectiveness of each medium depends on individual preferences and learning styles. It is advisable that people who are still wondering whether reading or watching TV is better for developing their imagination take this essay into great consideration as a point of reference.
