Government expenditure on arts music and theatre is a wasteful expenditure so, government should make better utilisation of these funds by investing in public services. The above statement is not entirely true.
Nowadays, government is increasing it’s expenditure on music, arts and theatre. Firstly, This type of investment promotes a country’s cultural influence in the world consequently, its cultural influence over the rest of world increases significantly For instance, French government invest heavily in music ,arts and theatre and it is popularly known as the cultural hub of the world. Furthermore, it promote tourism in the country, which generates economic benefits for the country. For context, millions of tourists visit Paris ” the city of love “, which is lucrative for local businesses.
On the other hand, government investment and public services needs to increase dramatically as government expenditure and public services is essential because it promotes infrastructure base in an economy. As a result of increased government expenditure, the public also grows confident in the economy’s ability to grow so ,they increase their investment expenditure boosting the economy. To illustrate, Government of India needs to spend truck loads of money in public services and whenever it invests public services ,the stock market goes up dramatically due to increase investment of the public.
In conclusion, government expenditure in arts, music and theatre is not a waste of money but government needs to focus more on its infrastructural and invest in public services. Hence, I believe the above statement is correct about the need for investment in public services but is mistaken about investment in liberal arts being a waste.
