Some people are of the opinion that our personal growth is mainly affected by the traits which are born with us. Meanwhile, others believe that experiences play a significant role in shaping an individual’s personality. In this essay, I will give a closer look to both perspectives, give my own views and indicate how exposures contribute to personal development in a civilized society.

To begin with, individuals are born with the traits which are defined as the foundation of their character shaping. These characteristics allow people to express their uniqueness to the world through thoughts and behaviours. The more people with distinctive traits there are, the more varieties the world has. A compelling example is that the eldest child in the family has a tendency to lead or guide more efficiently whereas the youngest one tends to be creative, energetic and self-motivated. This is the fact which is based on researches from a wide range of organizations such as National Institutes of Health, Vinmec and so on. These example underscores the paramount importance of how the characteristics we are born with influence on personal growth.

Nevertheless, inherited traits are extremely fundamental as it is the foundation for characteristics, they do not define our personality and development. Experiences are key factors that shape individuals’ growth. Environmental things like education, living environment and social communication can remarkably impact on how our personal developes. To illustrate, living environment shapes personality through social interaction or even knowledge about traditions and cultures. These aspects affect behaviours, beliefs and traits. A positive environment can build up a confident, unique and energetic individual while an adverse circumstance can result in anxiety, scare and unfriendliness.

In a nutshell, I firmly believe that experiences foster the full development and potential of a person while inherited characteristics are still necessary. A well-rounded person should combine unique traits and in-depth understanding to support residents’ overall growth. Especially, the young ought to be equipped with essential skills and gain exposures of the world.
