In recent years, there has been an argument that scientific research should be accomplished and managed by authorities instead of individual companies. I agree with the idea that it is better when governments play a more predominant role. The main reasons for this are public interest with reliable methods and long-term investment.
An outstanding reason to support the control of the government on scientific research is the huge capital to invest in research. The money to conduct research and pay for scientists is from taxes, so it is a long-term investment. It is assumed that only the government, with the well-being of the whole society in mind, could invest in these projects continuously and will not sacrifice the long-term goal for temporary financial gain. For instance, the Russian, American, and Japanese governments are always willing to pay significant amounts of funds to research nuclear energy to replace fossil energies as well as to control the effects of this type of energy on the environment.
The second reason for the control of the government on scientific research is the assurance of reliable methods and services for the public interest. The government can manage everything in the research to make sure that there is no negative activity for the community. While private companies are often constrained by personal benefits and profits from research projects, the government always gives priority to the common benefits of the community. In addition, the control of these scientific projects is carried out by many individuals, so any proposed method is always considered ethically before conducting experiments and research.
In conclusion, although private companies have been allowed to do research, governments should control and carry out major scientific studies.
