In the present era, digitalization has become an increasingly crucial part of modern society. While experts believe that smart devices and online resources could significantly enhance the education quality by enabling access to new information without waiting for the book writer to compose a book, eventually leading to a faster knowledge adaptation, others contend that it might have potential drawbacks. However, in this essay, I strongly disagree that replacing paper-based textbooks will significantly improve the quality of education.
To begin with, because of the current technological advancement, particularly artificial intelligence, there are no questions or assignments that can not be answered by AI. As a result, students might use various tools to get the final result without even understanding the fundamental concepts. Furthermore, it becomes a lot harder for teachers to distinguish the work of AI or organic
answers. Therefore, by using the physical book, students have to write down their assignments so that at least they read their answer once, even though it is partially or fully generated by AI.
Another reason is that there are some new challenges by going digital, particularly the distraction and the temptation to use the device for another activity such as playing video games or doom-scrolling on social media platforms, especially when unsupervised. Therefore, the use of traditional textbooks could eliminate those emerging challenges so that students can focus on the learning experiences.
By way of conclusion, although this shifting behaviour could modernise the learning process, it also comes with unavoidable consequences by excessive reliance on various tools that could downgrade the outcome. I totally disagree that digitizing paper-based books could improve the quality of education.
