Medical professionals believe that overeating junk food is damaging to our well-being. While some argue that education of people is the solution for this problem, others believe that it is not effective. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting a personal stance.
One the one hand, advocates of using education to address the problem argue that were individuals to inform about disadvantages of these food, they would not tend to consume. In the modern era, there are various ways to educate society for having a health diet. Mass media, social platforms such as Instagram,YouTube, and Facebook, for example, can be used to offer useful information about various healthy food and the drawbacks of an unhealthy diet, including different type of diseases such as obesity, diabetes, blood pressure, and heart disease. Growing consumption of junk food is as a result of illiteracy in nutrition areas.
On the other hand, supporters of the opposite view contend that the main reason for using harmful food is the lower cost of them in comparison with healthy ones. In some cases, individuals are informed about drawbacks of using junk foods, but as they just earn to live, they can not spend too much for food. Consequently, the consumption of cheap processed foods is increasing. The price of a pizza, for instance, is much lower than a plate of fish and vegetables. Additionally, having a healthy diet requires effective legal policies, such as implementing high taxes on processed food and subsidizing on fresh and healthy foods that diminish the cost of a beneficial diet.
In my view, although informing communities about negative impacts of unhealthy foods can be useful, it is not adequate, and other factors, such as income and government’s policies are more effective.
In conclusion, knowledge about effects of various nutrition is a key factor for choosing better option. However, there are much more significant factors that influence on what people select to eat, such as financial issues and rules is adopted by government.
