Recently, a rise in people’s awareness about climate change, has led to grave concerns regarding the devastating effects it can have if left unchecked. Environmentalists across the globe have argued the role of government and individuals in fighting climate change.
The strength of the government lies in it’s ability to simultaneously reach out large populations via mass media and setting up resources for countering climate change and implementing climate-aiding policies. But this is not a single-handed fight and it requires a joint effort from the people and the government to win this fight.
While the reach and support of the government is crucial, it is people’s everyday actions which define the future state of the world. Small actions like carpooling to work, using public transport where necessary, using reusable waste instead on plastic, not polluting the natural resources and reducing the amount of waste generated are capable of reducing the carbon footprint and thus, protecting the environment. As people get accustomed to these changes, the government can shoulder larger responsibilities like cleansing the water bodies to protect aquatic life, implementing bio-friendly ways to waste disposal, reducing the levels of pollution, protecting endangered species, and declaring more green biodiversity regions. Most individuals lack the expensive equipment and the technical knowledge needed to carry out some of the above mentioned activities, but with sufficient training, many will gladly volunteer the process.
To conclude, climate change has to be dealt with on a war footing and requires the joint dedication of people, institutes and governments to preserve the environment.
