Many people believe that crime is mainly caused by an economical disadvantage. Nevertheless, there are some people who believe that crime is mainly caused by person’s innate instinct.
Firstly, Some people say that the main cause of committing a crime is an economically unequal opportunity. In other words, poor people’s crime rate is more than rich people’s crime rate. It is because if people do not have a enough money to live on their own, they tent to commit a crime to live and it results in increasing in crime rate of the poor. For example, there are my favorite rappers called ‘homies’ who had a really poor adolescence. And their lyrics said ‘we starved ourselves for 3 days. So we stole gimbap from conveience store. We don’t regret because that was the only to prolong our lifes.’ It means they were forced to commit a crime because they are not economically free. As this shows, the poor may a situation where they should commit a crime, but the rich didn’t. Therefore, it is evident that the main cause of committing a crime is an economically unequal opportunity.
Moreover, some people assert that people act in immoral manner because they have a bad innate characteristic. For instance, there are research that says criminals had a bad personality and way of thinking even when they were a child about 8 years old. The teacher of one criminal when he was a child said that ‘he has a different way of thinking, so I really tried to care about him. But I’m really sorry about his crime.’ This cleary illustrates that crime is came from their nature. For this reason, it is undeniable that crime is caused by a person’s nature.
In summary, these two ideas about the cause of crime are both interesting. However, since it is difficult to say that crime is definitely caused by something, it seems more likely that we have to consider both opinions and struggle to decrease crime rate.
