Small family-run shops have significantly lost popularity among people and society due to the Internet. Many people believe that these shops will be displaced by alternatives like online shops and supermarkets. This essay will argue why small family-run stores won’t exist anymore despite providing products for people.
Firstly, I believe that supermarkets and hypermarkets will be a big threat to small independent shops in the near future. Although family-run stores can still be a good choice for basic shopping, like daily needs, they won’t have the capacity to provide a wide and high-quality range of products for individuals. Supermarkets, on the other hand, are expanding their product ranges. For instance, in my hometown, there is a supermarket not only for basic needs but also for people moving to new accommodations. It offers various items, including furniture, electronic devices, decorative options, and more. That’s why there won’t be any chance for independent shops to survive.
Secondly, shopping online is becoming the most popular method throughout the world. Thanks to technology, people find it easier to shop online instead of going in person. In other words, they believe shopping at local stores is no longer necessary when they can access a wider range of products at more affordable prices just by looking up on the internet. Based on an article I recently read about Europeans, it was believed that they are getting used to purchasing online, even though they are surrounded by different local stores. Thus, family-run stores are becoming old-fashioned because of technology.
To summarize, I am strongly convinced that these kinds of shops will become outmoded and obsolete because they can no longer meet the needs of society.
