It is often argued that social media has a negative impact on young people. While this view has some merit, I agree with this opinion to a certain extent. Nowadays, social media is an important part of teenagers’ daily lives, and it can influence their thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
One important reason why I agree with this view is that social media can negatively affect young people’s mental health. This is because they often compare themselves with others and feel less confident about themselves. Moreover, spending too much time online can distract teenagers from their studies and reduce the time they spend with their families. For example, some teenagers feel unhappy when they see other people’s perfect lives online, while others spend hours scrolling instead of doing their homework, which clearly illustrates this point.
However, it is also true that social media has some benefits. Some people believe that it helps young people communicate and learn new things. Indeed, teenagers can use online platforms to keep in touch with friends, discover useful information and improve their knowledge of foreign languages. Although this argument is valid to some extent, I still believe that social media should be used carefully, as spending too much time online can affect teenagers’ well-being and academic performance. Therefore, it is important to find a balance between online activities and real life.
In conclusion, while there are arguments on both sides, I believe that social media can have a negative impact on young people if it is not used responsibly. Overall, this view is more reasonable when considering its long-term impact on society.
