The growing expansion of social media has led to globalization. While there are some drawbacks, from my perspective, it is a positive trend for society.
Social media, such as Instagram or TikTok, enabled people to communicate without borders. People nowadays can share their thoughts and culture with others. For instance, everyone can promote their national customs and traditions via the internet and thereby promote cultural appreciation on a global scale. The other factor is a wider range of work possibilities. LinkedIn became an inevitable tool to communicate with possible employers, or find various positions related to the field of occupation. Specialists can get an offer from the company, which is located in a more developed country, consequently have more opportunities to grow professionally and get a corresponding salary.
While social media has brought many great possibilities to work and communicate with people, there are some cons on its side. With the availability of the internet, media influencers set trends across the world. Everyone wants to follow them to reach an acceptance, especially teenagers, who indeed depend on the thoughts of their friends. By following strictly all the trends, they tend to do harm to themselves, such as unhealthy diets, to be fit and look similar to their role models.
A subsequent factor arising from this is that not only the teenagers, but the whole society interpret their national culture as unworthy or poor, following only the biggest influencers or celebrities, forgetting about their self-identity.
To summarize, although there are factors that led to a negative outcome of globalization, for instance predominating culture in the media ecosystem, that is interpreted as the main among the others cannot be ignored, possibilities to work and share the culture plays a far more significant role.
