In this day and age, using social media to stay in touch with others and updating global news has been prevalent. Personally, I harbor the view that the benefits of this development outweigh the drawbacks.
There are some major rationales why social media bring such great advantages. The first reason is that using social media makes communication between individuals extremely convenient. It is evident that in the society without the existence of Internet, the only approach to have conversations with relatives or friends living in another region is via letters. Furthermore, people had to go to the post office to purchase stamps and waited for a long time to receive letters. As the recipient had to experience a long period of waiting and no face-to-face interact, the conversation reduces its initial excitement. For example, when emotions or jokes are only expressed by words, it does not bring much joy comparing to that brought by witnessing the laughs directly.
However, social media meet all the requiring criteria of a conversation, whether it is face-to-face interact or receive messages immediately without being charged any fees. In addition, individuals using social media are capable of updating global news as soon as it published online while those with the traditional approach of accessing news have to wait until the end of the day or the following day. Hence, it is extremely convenient for social media users as they could reach all the news swiftly, especially those whose jobs are related in stocks or economic.
In conclusion, social media is the optimal way to stay connected with those living abroad and access news updates due to the evaluated reasons.
