It is a common belief that modern science linked to criminal forensics should be addressed to resolve old cases. In my view, new science cannot be addressed in this case. Thus, the evidence contamination and a low percentage of accurancy block the usage of this type of approach.
In this day and age, the debate about the usage of modern science in old criminal research has sparked intense discussion. Nowadays, people are influenced by television’s shows, such as CSI. This trend has led to an unreal conviction that science should resolve past cases, easely. Indeed, this type of audience shares this thought. Nonetheless, empirical evidence demostres that this way of doing is impossible for a great number of reasons. In this sense, a key role is played by the clues’ contamination. Therefore, after a long period of time a plethora of evidence had a modification due to external factors, such as bacteria exposure.
Furthermore, in light of this, criminal forensics’ accurancy has significative percentage of error. Only being criminal scientists, do individuals know that TV’s shows are for the fifty per cent unreal. This type of science-fiction has widely influence people’s misinfromation. Hence, the need of real information form news and journalists is of paramount importance. This approach should be a way to tackle misinformation due to these types of television’s programs. In this view, although it is truthful that in modern cases this type of approach should be used, past cases cannot be resolved by this method.
Overall, people believe that the usage of science should be beneficial for the resolution of past crime cases. In this view, I believe that because of evidence contamination and low percentage fo accurancy this type of approach is not possible. Additionaly, there is strong influence of TV’s shows that should be replaced by real information.
