Band 7+: Some believe that practical skills are important, while others think academic subjects are vital. Discuss both views and present your opinion

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some people argue that schools should concentrate solely on academic subjects, whereas others believe that practical skills are equally important in education. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I strongly support a balanced approach.

On the one hand, focusing on academic subjects such as mathematics, science, and literature helps students develop critical thinking and intellectual abilities. These subjects are essential for higher education and professional careers like medicine, engineering, and law. Without a strong academic foundation, students may struggle to compete in an increasingly knowledge-based world.

On the other hand, practical skills such as communication, financial management, and problem-solving are crucial for real-life situations. Many students graduate with excellent academic results but lack basic life skills, making it difficult for them to adapt to the workplace. Teaching practical skills at school can prepare students to become more independent and confident adults.

In my opinion, schools should combine academic education with practical training. A balanced curriculum allows students to achieve academic success while also gaining skills that are useful in everyday life. This approach produces well-rounded individuals who are better prepared for both careers and personal responsibilities.

In conclusion, although academic subjects are important, practical skills should not be ignored. Schools that integrate both aspects of education will benefit students in the long term.
