Nowadays, it is true that people have different opinions about keeping living animals in zoos, where they feel secure and are provided with all the food they need. While there are some benefits of this trend, I consider there are more disadvantages compared to the advantages.
On the one hand, keeping animals in zoos can be good for both wildlife and their natural habitats. Zookeepers may pay more attention to animals that are disappearing. By providing enough water, food, or shelter for living, they can save their endangered species. Another positive side is that it may be the best place for students who are learning biology, particularly zoology. It is one of the subjects that only focuses on teaching a wide range of animals, ranging from mammals to insects.
On the other hand, I think there are more drawbacks to keeping animals in zoos. Firstly, they may feel a sense of restriction of their freedom. Animals who live in zoos are maintained in limited space; zoos provide even boundaries that animals must not cross. However, this is not true for their natural wildlife. They can feel more comfortable in their own place without these kinds of limits. Another important negative is that animals face a lot of challenges during transportation when it requires moving them to other zoos. For example, last year’s statistics showed that during transportation, around 25% of animals died.
In conclusion, despite the benefits of keeping animals in zoos, I believe the disadvantages are more important than advantages.
