Some professors think animals can be safe and are given all food that need when they live in the zoos. While there are some benefits to this trend, I consider that there are some disadvantages than advantages.
On the one hand, animals can be safe when living in the zoos. Living in this, they will be protect from human’s or other natural predators hunting, especially important to rare and endangered species. Therefore, their poplulation can be maintaned and prevent their extinction. Moreover, their physical fitness will be improved. People will provide sufficient food for them, so animals can avoid dying from starvation. In case of illness, they will be diagnosed early and treated with modern medicine, thus they can recover quickly and live longer than wild counterpants.
On the other hand, their physical health can be affected. Living in the zoological park, animals will be captived in the cage, thus all activities are restricted in a closed space and not allowed to perform intensive activities such as running and hunting. As a result, they can only wander in a small space, lead to increase the likelihood of obeysity. In addition to, long time captivity and staying away from their natural habits, this make them lose some instinct behaviors such as foraging for food and enduring in extreme weather conditions. Additionally, captive animals are also affected in terms of mental health. Being watched in front of large audiences and remaining in the same place in the long run, inevitably lead to stress, boredom and even depression. It does enormous harm to their life and health, both mental health and physical health.
In conclusion, despite the merits of keeping animals in the zoo, I believe the demerits are more significant than the merits.
