Band 7+: Some parents buy their children whatever they ask for, and allow their children to do whatever they want. Is this a good way to raise children? What consequences could this style of parenting have for children as they get older?

There is a contentious issue surrounding the matter of child rearing. An increasing number of people believe that it is beneficial to grant children unrestricted freedom to pursue their desires and purchase whatever they wish. This essay aims to present a relevant perspective on whether this approach is advantageous in raising children, as well as to outline the potential consequences for the children as they mature.

First and foremost, fostering an environment where children are permitted to explore various activities and reflect on their mistakes with parental guidance is pivotal in effective child rearing. In other words, discipline is instilled in young individuals when they are encouraged to analyze their actions and learn from them, thereby establishing a set of principles for future conduct. Allowing children certain freedoms while providing guidance is likely to yield positive outcomes over time. For instance, a study conducted a decade ago demonstrated significant differences in the behavior of children raised in two families; the first family allowed unrestricted freedom but provided guidance on areas for improvement, while the second family adopted a more restrictive approach. As anticipated, the children raised without limitations evolved into independent and decisive individuals.

Furthermore, this approach proves to be effective in the long run as it is the accumulation of experiences that enables individuals to make informed decisions.
