Band 6+: Some people argue that children are given too much homework. What are the reasons for that, and how can this problem be solved?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

For the last century, education has become a significantly important part of people’s lives, especially in developed countries. However, a big amount of home work seems to affect students’ physical and mental health negatively. In this essay, I will discuss the reasons of this problem and offer relevant solutions.

The main reason why many teachers give students a great deal of home work is not properly planned study program. I mean, in many countries, school books contain much information for studying, but a small number of lessons are planned. As a result, educators ask students to complete a plenty of tasks at home. A lack of free time may lead to stress or problems with sleep. To solve this problem, government must control accurately departments that approve school programs.

One of the key reasons why children are given too much homework is that teachers want to improve students’ level of knowledge. Most tutors believe that additional exercises help children to practise new skills and memorise material better. However, teachers should focus on the quality rather than the amount of homework. They could give fewer but more useful exercises that help children to understand and remember important information.

Another reason for the large amount of homework is the need to raise the level of knowledge. In some countries the program is structured so that students acquire a large amount of knowledge at school every day and therefore do not need homework. But in CIS countries usually schools cannot give necessary knowledge due to a lack of teaching hours, so they assign a lot of homework.

Despite the fact that education is considerably essential, it can lead to some health issues if the proportion of home tasks is too great. Due to breaking of rules, fails in educational system, and a wish of teachers to achieve success students may experience stress or even apathy. To solve this problem, the government must not only control the school process but also assess students’ health at the end of every school year.

It is often believed that people working long hours help their countries achieve rapid economic success compared to other nations. Although working longer hours can make a difference, I largely disagree with this perspective, as economically successful nations often rely on technology and automation instead of human labor. This tendency, by the way, leads to […]

Some people believe that children's leisure activities must be educational; otherwise they are a complete waste of time. Do you agree or disagree? Opinion essay

Opinions are divided on whether activities of children must only be educational. Some individuals assume that they must be education-related otherwise they are unnecessary. I totally disagree with this statement because of possible early exhaustion from learning and the advantages of other type of activities. On the one hand, forcing children to play only educational […]

In many nations, children are increasingly involved in competitive sports at very young ages. Why do parents push their children into such intensive competition? Is this a positive development for the child's overall growth?

Sports are an important feature of health. However, there is contention over whether early tournament should be participated by the childrens. In my view, the younger children who joining the tournament, the earlier they can build their responsibility. Some people firmly believe that early tournaments are beneficial because of scheduling. Primary concern about early tournament […]

There has been a debate for years about whether the medical services should be in charge with the government or private companies should be the one who has authority in this matter.
