Some people argue that job candidates should be evaluated based on their social skills rather than academic standards. I partially agree with this statement and believe that a balanced approach is required to assess the suitability of job seekers.
On one hand, social capabilities play an important role in shaping the personality of a worker. As most of the jobs need interpersonal qualities like teamwork, it becomes necessary for the employees to develop their skills. For example, many jobs are based on the communication power of a person such as salespeople, if the individuals fail to interact effectively, it can eventually affect their work performance. Moreover, better interactions with colleagues helps to create a friendly environment at the workplace. Thus, social capabilities are required to enhance the work efficiency of employees.
However, intellectual achievements are equally significant as other abilities. Since having good qualifications indicates that the applicant is disciplined and competent, it is crucial to not ignore the educational successes. To illustrate, fields like engineering, medical sector, and law need high levels of knowledge. Furthermore, sometimes higher degree means that the individual can work at higher ranks as well. For example, in police department, ranks are assigned on the basis of the marks that applicants scored in their entrance exam. Hence, scholarly accomplishments are key requirements to test the eligibility of applicants.
In conclusion, I think that job applicants should be assessed on the basis of not only their social qualities but also their personal achievements.
