Band 7+: Some people argue that parents should control what their children watch on TV and the internet. Others believe children should be free to choose. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It’s the modern era, and technology has advanced, so digital tools are being used more than others. There is an argument that some individuals believe that parents should keep an eye on their children’s screen time, whereas others argue that youngsters should make decisions for themselves. In this essay, I will explore my opinion and explain the drawbacks if children’s screen time is not controlled by their guardians.

On the one hand, it can be observed that there are many social apps which are not suitable for children. For instance, numerous romantic videos and unethical clips are shown by TikTok and Facebook, which seems harmful for them, but teenagers are unable to decide which activities they should watch or not.

Secondly, it makes them dull because they spend more time on mobile devices or laptops and play online games, which keeps them away from physical sports. It also has hazardous effects on children’s eyesight, and at a very young age, they have to wear glasses if they watch screens for a long time.

On the other hand, some believe that children should decide their screen time; moreover, it improves their confidence and makes them independent, so in this way, they become mature at an early age. It boosts their abilities to judge and face the good and bad aspects of their lives.

It is concluded that, although there are positive and negative sides to children using mobile devices independently, the disadvantages are greater than the advantages. Finally, parents must take serious notice of their children’s screen time and never allow them to use it for more than 3 hours each day.
