In this day and age, many people believe that there is no need for scientific work anymore, as it is a waste of money and resources. From my perspective, scientific research should be carried out consistently, as there are still unresolved pressing issues and a lot to discover.
To begin, there are numerous urgent matters that are not fully addressed yet. The healthcare sector is of utmost importance for scientists who aspire to find solutions to incurable diseases. Oncological ailments, for example, should be investigated, and viable solutions should be found for those who suffer from such diseases. Although the discovery of medicines for fatal illnesses may require an inordinate amount of time and funding, millions of people may recover in the long run. Many talented people suffer from incurable diseases nowadays, but if they recover, they may contribute to the betterment of society in numerous ways.
Another compelling argument in favour of scientific research is that the future is unpredictable and the world’s resources may be depleted. That is to say, scientists, particularly those whose expertise is in astronomy, should continue to carry out research to find new forms of life and resources in other planets. Added to this, there is no guarantee that natural resources are permanent, as a considerable number of factories and individuals consume resources in an apathetic way. Fossil fuels such as oil and gas are depleting steeply, and alternative fuels should be explored. Despite the fact that this may require funding by authorities and involvement of scientists from all over the world, it should be addressed immediately.
In conclusion, although some people state that scientific work is unnecessary and requires an enormous amount of money, I believe it should be carried out in various disciplines for the smooth functioning of society.
