In recent years, the issue of the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on our mundane lives has sparked significant debate. While some people believe that this technology has brought a great deal of merits to the society, others think that its hazards are more considerable than its benefits. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my own opinion on the matter.
Proponents of AI often claim that had it not been for the advancement of digital tools, people would not have had the opportunity to develop their skills and maintain a work-life balance. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, online classes saved time and even lives of many students and teachers. Additionally, consumer electronics such as smartphones and laptops facilitate communication and collaboration through this technology-driven world.
Conversely, others contend that job insecurity is one of the most threats that is offered by technology. Digital tools have not only taken the place of many employees, but also have negative impacts on the income of the rest. For instance, some IT companies have suspended their employees and recruited more efficient robots instead. Moreover, several careers in the fields of education, healthcare and engineering are going to be faded away due to the wide globalization and digitalization.
To conclude, although there are convincing arguments on both sides regarding the effect of AI, I believe that striking a balance provides a practical and sustainable solution. It is important to assess both viewpoints carefully before making any major decisions.
