In this ever-fast-paced society, many children have to tackle the challenges that life brings them. So, some people believe that parents and teachers should discipline them by making rules. While others think that children would be unable to equip themselves to tackle such situations in life, I agree that controlling children will not help them nurture and develop independently, but make them dependent.
Setting rules for children to follow certain commands or strict orders from parents and teachers will make them exhausted. They get tired of hearing such rules. For an analogy, horses are controlled, mostly, by their master who gives commands for any task. When the controlled horse is let on its own, it begins to act wild as it is not prepared for what is arriving. Similarly, children also face difficulty understanding what life means as they were completely reliant on their master’s commands. This type of situation not only makes them discouraging but also causes them to lose hope in themselves.
Whereas in the minds of gurus, instead of teaching children how to face their struggles, they tend to teach how to avoid by their so-called rules. The fear that controls their minds is passed onto the children. As teachers are taught, by their teachers, to hit or shout at their students so as to educate them, this can adversely affect a child’s entire life. Disciplining children in a healthy way, while acceptable, can do no harm in the long run.
Rather than punishing a child, inculcating a positive discipline approach puts an emphasis on developing a healthy relationship with the child. By setting clear expectations around behavior, for instance, telling them exactly what to do is much more effective than telling them what not to do, and can be less affecting.
