There are considerable mount of people who opine that the food to feed their population should be produced by countries themselves and be imported as little as possible while others debate. I completely agree with this statement. My view and reasons will be explained in the following paragraphs.
First and foremost it is more expensive way to purchase a product from outside , rather than buying it at a higher price it is better to produce this product ourselves. For instance, the USA, Canada and the UK pay a huge premium for imported agricultural items from India, Vietnam and Bangladesh which they could have gotten at cheaper rates if they had grown them within their own borders.
Secondly, domestic production is a more reliable source. Farmers have a complete understanding of their own soil, nutrients, seasons and land size. This ensures that they can predict bad weather and therefore can plan way ahead of time how much food they will require to offset the deficit caused by poor climate conditions. If we buy food from another country, there are doubts about its quality and naturalness. For example landowners in Kazakhstan can predict the season conditions and weather based on their experience, then they can take a drastic actions against a problem they face.
To sum up, importing food is not profitable in case of money and quality . Moreover I consider that countries should focus on producing food my themselves
