Several individuals think that high school students should primarily focus on academic studies to ensure a good future, while others assume that students should participate in extracurricular activities as it is equally prominent for their overall development.
With students focusing only on their academic studies, they can acquire the knowledge and skills required in their specific fields. To illustrate, a student who has a deep interest in Business may receive the necessary knowledge and skills to be a successful entrepreneur in the future, where the strong focus on counting expenses, managing employees, and controlling resources effectively may need a student’s strong focus and commitment in order for them to achieve their career goals. Thus, imparting knowledge for each of their fields can determine the right and focused path for their future career, enabling them to be successful.
On the contrary, with active participation in extracurriculars, pupils are able to improve their non-academic related skills and talents. For example, joining a chess club not only helps students improve their logical thinking but also helps them to think strategically. This way students can develop and enhance their personal growth by upgrading their skills that they may not be able to get from only focusing on academics. Furthermore, this approach also offers students an environment where they can foster their creativity and talents, further enhancing to their personal growth. As a result, participation in diverse activities helps students to grow by exemplifying new skills and talents.
Taking everything into account, I think that students should have a balanced focus between their academics and their extracurricular activities as being successful may need students to not only focus on their current skills for their subjects but also discover new capabilities through active participation in various activities.
