For centuries, death penalty had been the essential part of the concept of justice and it is highly debated topic that how it would prevent crime rates and be a chance to get a more peaceful society. There is a group of individuals who thinks that death penalty should be applied to maintain safety in our living. I completely disagree with this perspective because of serious reasons.
First of all, every human being have the right to life just simply because they are human, regardless of what they did, even when they committed the most inhumanly crime. This right which comes from the philosophy of law is considered the cornerstone of all human rights, which suggests the best approach to the people. According to this law, nobody can end other people’s lives highlighting any crime or any other thing. As a result, executing one person for any reason is a violation of a fundament human right and that’s why it is considered degarding, inhuman and unethical punishment by many people as me.
Another compelling reason is the impact of death penalty on society if it is applied in the country. For example, we can imagine one country where death penalty is implemented as a punishment by the government. There are two sides that should be discussed: first, the psychological effect on the person who is being executed, and second, the effect on the society whose citizens are being executed. This type of punishment that decreases the value of human would impact the both sides in a bad way and never bring good results in the society we live as it constitutes cruel treatment and then cruel society instead of safe. Moreover, it should not be forgotten that there is always a risk of executing innocent individuals which can cause the concerns of fairness on people against the government.
In conclusion, I entirely oppose the view of restoring death penalty since it violates our fundamental human rights and brings ethically deep concerns in society.
