The rationale behind this argument is that implementing a higher taxation process on companies can discourage them from worst practices, reduce the use of disposable products, and mitigating the risk of excessive carbon emissions. Moreover, government can use tax revenues for investing in renewable sources, waste management, recycling, and pollution control projects. Consequently, this can lead to an eco-friendly environment. For example, in 1992, Sweden introduced a carbon tax to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by taxing fossil fuel usage. Since implementing the carbon tax, Sweden has significantly reduced its carbon emissions while maintaining economic growth.
Conversely, advocates for the prominence of applying alternative ways posit that although rising tax on various companies or associations are a good idea to reduce pollution, there are other alternative ways to tackle this problem. For example, government can promote to utilize green technology which can help to develop eco-friendly products and services that protect our environment. In addition, other alternative ways, like raising public awareness which includes educational campaigns and environmental issues mitigating programs that can raise awareness among the public to avoid pollution tasks. Furthermore, stringent environmental regulations like substantial monetary fines could significantly discourage publics from engaging in the pollution activities.
