Should we just accept the unfortunate events we stumble upon in life or should we try to turn them around? In this essay I will be stating reasons as to why some people think it is better to accept dreadful situations while others try to better such circumstances.
On one hand, people believe that undertaking tough situations shows resilience and adaptation which are qualities often needed in successful individuals or ‘breadwinners’ in underdeveloped countries or cities. For instance, men in upper egypt living in extreme poverty are expected to go to Cairo under very taxing circumstances such as living in the streets or eating one meal a day just to do random tasks and earn way below the minimum wage. This is perceived as normal and if men complain or try to do something to turn their situation around are often considered weak.
On the other hand, people living in better conditions usually have the luxury of improving such events and believe in always bettering their lifestyle. For example, well off people are more likely to have enough saved up to resign from an unsatisfactory job to hunt for a better opportunity that fits their needs and satisfies their self actualization. Furthermore, if they are ever put in a situation when they are short on money they can probably get out of it by reaching out to their connections who are similar to them for help.
To conclude, the mindset of improving one’s life is dependent on a bunch of other factors such as poverty, level of education and the environment at which they grew up. In my opinion, it is always a good idea to try and find better opportunities for yourself and work on becoming the best version of you.
