Some people think that they should accept an unpleasent situation in life like low income or unsatisfactory occupation, while others believe that they can change such unpleasent situation for better. I personally think one should always try to improve the situation as much as possible.
There are many reasons why one would surrender and accept the situation as it is. Firstly, it is less complicated to accept the current unsatisfactory situation. This is due to the reason that change is always challenging and overwhelming. As an example, our former secretary was working in our department for twenty years, eventhough she was not earning enough, as she believed other jobs are too complicated for her. Secondly, one who wants to change an unsatisfactory situation in his or her life, has to take risk. This means that one might experience a worse situation for a while before siatuation changes for better.
On the other hand, there are several reasons why one should fight for a better situation. Firstly, if one do not work on improving an unpleasent situation, he or she has to bare the situation and this can consume a great deal of his or her energy on daily basis. One example that comes to my mind is transition from a former position at work place to a new position which happened for one of my former colleagues. Eventhough, it was challenging and frustrating at first for her, she decided to leave her former job for a better pay and more respected position with higher responsibilities. Secondly, undergoing an unbareable situation such as a toxic workplace or work overload, can harm one’s health condition in long term. This case is seen in many PhD students at the end of their studies, which results in burn out and mental health issues.
In conclusion, a group of people believe that they should accept an unsatisfactory situation as it is, while the other group argue that they should fight for improving an unpleasent situation.
