The query over the ultimate source of stories for children has sparked a fervent debate in contemporary society. While many people believe that it is parents that should be responsible for telling or reading stories to their children, others argue for materials such as books, TV and movies. This essay will look at both views before giving my conclusion.
On the one hand, people who are of the notion that parents should turn to books, movies or television have their own grounds. To commence with, such materials as televisions and books save time for parents. To be more specific, by utilizing these sources, parents might not have to spend their free time with their children. As a result, parents can save more time devoted to their work to feed their family instead of losing time to their offspring. In addition, books, television or movies can teach children more lessons thanks to a wide variety of contents they encompass, such as peace or poverty. Hence, children are more likely to have valuable knowledge in numerous fields, which will be of great use for their academic performances at school.
On the other hand, supporters of the conventional way of telling stories to children have two reasons for their belief. Firstly, it is economical because it is a free source of material, in which parents directly tell their children about their experiences in the past. As a result, parents may be able to save much of their money for more important purposes such as buying food for the family. Secondly, it is a reliable source of education since it is based on the hands-on experiences of their parents in the past. For example, a father who used to serve in the military force can use his own experience to provide the child with a lesson of the value of peace. Consequently, the child may be more captivated by the credible piece of information they have just received and remember it longer than just simply read from a book or watch television.
To recapitulate, despite the undeniable benefits of using alternative sources such as books, television and movies, using traditional way of telling or reading stories seems more rational. However, parents should use conventional as well as alternative way of telling stories to their offspring to make the best of the information from the contents each story contains.
