The tendency to live in urban areas from all over the world has been prevalent. It is sometimes believed that people who live in big cities struggle more than that of rural areas, while others think the opposite. In my opinion, overcrowding in metropolitan places might cause stress in civilians, yet the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
One of the most criticized factors of living in urban areas is often attributed to the increase in population. This results in traffic jams and an increase in the cost of living. Students who come from other regions could face challenges with their daily commute and housing expenses, leaving them with little time to relax after work and studies. Another indirect concern with the city overpopulation is connected to fast paced life-style, making people lose social connection that they could otherwise, find in small towns.
On the other hand, people still can benefit from opportunities provided in modern cities. A lot of investments go to education and other social sectors, increasing the quality at large. Many students graduating from universities in urban areas showed excellence at work compared to their counterparts in small towns. Moreover, the healthcare services are also publicly funded for local people, giving them the opportunity to gain access to better medical treatment.
In my opinion, the idea of moving to large cities is not a problem but a fillip to the economy. With more people residing in a city, many businesses could market their service and products, contributing to overall tax, which then could be used to improve the city life in many ways. Many improved cities in Japan are as a result of increasing the number of residents, meaning that a city’s economy is directly correlated to its people.
In conclusion, although there are some drawbacks of overpopulation in cities, I believe that advantages are more significant.
