Some individuals tend to think that it should be permitted to publish information about private lives of politicians in newspapers. At the same time, there are other people who believe that this can signify an invasion of privacy. While each point can have its weight, I don’t think that making private lives of politicians public in any form of media, especially in newspapers, is ethically appropriate.
In modern democratic society, every person has a right for their privacy. Politicians are also regular human beings who need their privacy for the maintenance of good mental health. Newspapers with their personal details can significantly harm their psychological wellbeing. For example, public exposure of a politician’s family conflict details in a newspaper can lead to the feeling of guilt or shame which is the most harmful thing in terms of mental wellbeing according to verified psychology research articles.
On the other hand, knowing more about functioning politicians in all kinds of spheres can be helpful. The information on personal lives provides by journalists in newspapers can open eyes of citizens when it comes to election processes. As an example, many people decided not to vote for Donald Trump due to his interactions with criminal organizations. It is possible that such choices affected by newspaper articles can lead to better political situation on a global scale.
In conclusion, there are many positive and negative factors regarding both statements. However, people should value ethics over intrigues and unnecessary information in newspapers. If we are able to maintain everyone’s privacy, more politicians will have good states of minds. Therefore, it will result in better governance and stable world, because no one will waste time on subjects apart from the ones that matter the most.
