I generally agree with this idea and I have personally noticed this in many aspects of my life.
For one example, we can think of study fields and all these options we have these days. Back then, if a student wanted to study biology, they could easily apply for that specific field and if accepted they would start their journey. But nowadays, if you want to study biology, there are many different branches, like molecular biology, cellular biology, human biology, ecological biology, etc.
Another example is choosing a food item from a restaurant menu. People used to go to a restaurant or a diner and choose a simple food like grilled chicken sandwich or a simple burger sandwich. But now, you can look at a menu and find all these fascinating names for different types of dishes and sandwiches and you can hardly find a simple burger option.
In my opinion this can have both positive and negative impacts. For example biology is a very broad filed of study and all these detailed programs can result in a specialized graduate with focus on that exact field and help that specific branch grow and also help the student find a more suiting career. As a negative impact, we can think of the fact that many students don’t know what all these different programs are and This can lead to both confusion and a lot of time consumption.
overall, I think notwithstanding all these positive points mentioned, this amount of choices can lead to confusion and I personally prefer few simple options.
