Some people think that humans are surrounded by too many choices nowadays. From my perspective, I completely agree with this opinion, as these choices ranging across various aspects of life, from work, education, healthcare, to entertainment.
It is undeniable that societal development is directly proportional to human needs, which leads to a rise in manufacturing and servicing. Meanwhile, in the past, humans suffered from the lack of food and materials due to the limited technological advancements. However, an abundance of choices can be beneficial and detrimental at the same time.
On the one hand, consumers can experience products from diverse sources and brands, allow them to opt the ones that fit their budgets. In terms of employment, there are more job opportunities available online or on-site. If an employee doesn’t feel comfortable with his position, he may quit to start his own business, selling a trendy kind of cosmetics, for example. Similarly, parents can change their children’s schools immediately if they find out they are being bullied at their temporary schools. When someone is sick and in an emergency, they can choose to go to a private hospital for quicker and better services. On the mentality level, more options can make people feel freer and less stressed to some extent.
On the other hand, the availability of too many choices can be counter-productive. The presence of low-quality products and services may derive from our countless needs of materials. The more we want, the more choices we have, as materialistic individuals are always seeking for chances to make money. As a result, we, consumers, with a lack of knowledge and wisdom, may become victims of fraud. Moreover, options arise from the overexploitation of natural resources, leading to various environmental problems.
In conclusion, although living among choices can bring us more freedom and convenience, it can also create confusion, poor decision-making, and social and environmental consequences. Therefore, individual should make responsible choices rather than being driven by excessive material desires.
