Band 6+: Many criminals re-offended after they have been punished. Why do some people continue to commit crimes after they have been punished, and what measures can be taken to tackle this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, the majority of criminals commit crimes again after being punished. While this can lead to numerous problems, it can be addressed in several ways.

There are several factors that contribute to this issue. One of the primary reasons is lack of rehabilitation in prisons. This occurs mainly due to fact that in prisons there is no special educational programs, job training programs, and mental health support. As a result, the criminals leave prison unchanged, which means they have the same mindset, mental health issues, and habits, which leads to committing a crime again. For instance, relative of mine committed a crime in the past and was punished for many years, but after being released, he turned to a criminal path again with more serious offenses. The reason for this is he did not get appropriate treatment and education, so it does not matter how many times he will get punished, it is not helpful without right treatment.

Nevertheless, various measures can be taken to address this problem. A practical solution is organizing rehabilitation courses such as special educational programs, job training programs, and mental health support. This can be achieved, by governments arranging this kind of initiatives and continuing it even after release. For example, classmate of mine during the punishment took these programs, which he is continuing taking these programs and he is feeling much better than before.

Although, many offenders committing a crime again after the punishment because there is no special treatment and support, government can start arranging different types of programs in order to address this issue.
