Many offenders commit crimes again eventhough have been punished. It is often argued that punishment does not prevent criminals from commiting further offences. There are some reasons why people re-offend after being punished, and effective solutions such as rehabilitation centres and psychological support that can help to addres the issue.
One of the main reason for re-offending is that punishment does not necessrly change a person’s behaviour. Some criminals may have grown up in difficult environment where violence, drug abuse, crime were common. As a result, they return back to the same lifestyle after complete the sentence. Another factor is that the lack of education and employment. People with a criminal record often find it difficult to obtain stable jobs, so it may be problematic to find job which can cause financial problems. In addition prisoners may connection with other criminals which make it harder to escape criminal world in the future.
Several measures can be taken to reduce re-offending. Firstfull, prisoners should focus more on rehabilation rather than on the punishment, prsioners could be offered education, vacational traininng and psychological support so they can develop useful skills and address reasons behind the criminal behavior. For example teaching prisoners cooking or computer skills could improve their chances of finding employment opportunities.
Further more, government should provide more job opportunities, temproray accomodation financial support which may help to find stable life and avoid returning to crime.
People may re-offend because punishment does not always address the causes of crime and prsioners often face difficulties finding work and rebuilding teir lives’. A combination of rehabilation and practical support would be effective to reduce offenfing.
