Band 5+: Some people believe that powerful advertising can be harmful to individuals. In what ways can advertising negatively affect people? What solutions can be implemented to minimize its harmful effects?

Some individuals claim that advertising is possibly harmful to clients. It affects negatively in some ways such as exaggerating and manipulating people. Strict standards and reports to authorities are solutions that should be applied to mitigate these harmful effects.

Due to the misleading advertising, the products’ usefulness are exaggerated with the purpose of maximizing profits. For example, a debate new is widespreaded currently in Vietnam. This is the case of Keera, which is a vegetable candy brand. They advertised that each candy will include nutritions equal to a vegetable dish but it is inaccurate. As a result, customers are confused and broken their trust. Furthermore, the advertising also manipulates people, which relates to client’s psychology and makes them want to buy products. For instance, a product which is bought with an affordable price by an influencer will create the crowd effect to buyers. Therefore, there are significant problems upon advertising that governments should address immediately.

To solve these harmful, authorities should enact strict regulations for advertisers. Specifically, sellers have to provide real product images and licences, which ensure the rights of customers. Additionally, people are allowed to criticize businesses who have illegal advertising. Hence, governments can punish these businesses and deter to others. From the case of Keera, buyers announced to authorities about the harmful products. Consequently, Keera was punished, and governments propagated about negative effects of this brand to warn other users and advertisers.

In conclusion, advertising brings noticeable negative impacts to clients’ rights. However, there are also solutions to control these problems. Governments should have strict punishment and clients should become more rational when buying products.
