In the modern world, it is generally accepted that top athletic stars have an extremely large income and this great profit is not associated with their contribution to society. The question is whether it is true or not?
On the one hand, there are many reasons why the average salary of top sportsmen and women is several times higher than the average salary of ordinary people. The first and main reason is that athletes spend the best part of their life trying to reach a significantly high level in their sports. Unfortunately, not all people who start on this path will eventually be able to end it. Moreover, people enjoy the life stories of champions which are widely broadcastED on social networks, but the stories of people who have been forced to end their sports careers due to injuries are no less crucial.
On the other hand, if one considers the impact of professions such as teachers or firefighters on society, it becomes obvious that their contribution is often underestimated. For instance last year the world famous football player Cristiano Ronaldo is said to have earned 200 million euros, while the average salary of a firefighter is around 65 thousand dollars a year. This means that not only is athlete’s salary significantly higher than income of common people, but also it prevails over wage of professional in critical fields.
In conclusion, I agree with this statement. Indeed, athletes receive disproportionately higher salaries than people who make a much greater contribution to society.
