Band 8+: Some people believe that school children should not be given homework by their teachers, whereas others argue that homework plays an important role in the education of children. Discuss both of these views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some argue that children should not be overloaded with homework, while others believe it is an essential part of the learning process. In my opinion, while excessive homework can be unproductive, it remains a valuable tool for reinforcing learning.

On the one hand, many people believe that school children should not be given homework for several reasons. Firstly, they argue that homework places unnecessary stress on children. For example, after spending long hours at school, children might feel both mentally exhausted and burdened by additional assignments at home. Secondly, opponents of homework believe that it reduces the time available for other important activities, such as spending time with family, socializing, or pursuing hobbies. Finally, they argue that children should be able to relax after school rather than being overburdened, which could impact their mental health negatively.

On the other hand, others believe that homework plays a crucial role in a child’s academic development. Firstly, homework allows students to reinforce what they have learned in school. For example, solving problems or completing assignments helps reinforce concepts. Secondly, it helps students improve their time management skills by requiring them to plan and allocate sufficient time to complete tasks. Finally, homework promotes greater self-discipline, as students learn to stay dedicated to finishing their tasks independently.

In conclusion, although concerns about the potential drawbacks of homework are valid, I believe it remains an essential part of education when assigned in reasonable amounts. Well-structured homework can strengthen learning and help students develop valuable life skills Score this essay
