The issue of whether social media has good and bad influence on young generation has been matter of a considerable debate. While some people it helps learn and keep in touch with other people across the world, others reckon that it negatively impacts on their mental health and overall well-being. I personally agree with the latter view.
To start, it’s fair to say that social media confers several benefits upon younger users in many aspects. One of those benefits is that it makes it accessible for everyone to communicate with lots of people from different corners of world. For example, social platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat make it easy to share own views and photographs from their life instantly. Additionally, social media can be useful tool for learning for youths. It contains a large number of video tutorials and basic instructions to enable younger people improve even their school performance. In the sense, it can be deduced that social media brings multiple benefits in many walks of life.
Convincing as it may sound, social media, despite its advantages, comes with its shortcomings. One main drawback is that it may have a bad impact on young people’s mental health. As a result of looking to the screen longer than needed, it may lower youngsters concentration and comprehension levels from an early age, leading to possible illnesses down the line. Another equally serious drawback is that it leads to weakening the productivity in young generation, such as causing anxiety and lowering self-esteem. For instance, watching long useful videos may exceed anxiety levels which also can be reason for chronic diseases.
In conclusion, having considered social media debate from both angles, I am more inclined to say that it’s disadvantages outweigh the possible benefits of it. Therefore, social media should be controlled due to the unpleasant consequences it may lead toward.
