In modern society, technology has a huge impact on our daily lives. It is believed that online-based platforms have disadvantages for the youth’s communication skills. While others argue that these platforms can connect to each other easily. There are valid arguments on both sides of this debate, which will be analyzed in the upcoming paragraphs.
On the one hand, a significant reason why social media brings various drawbacks for young people. This can be explained by the fact that teenagers may spend much time playing games or messaging with friends, and they could become addicted. Consequently, excessive use may cause young people to have a sedentary lifestyle, so they will have less face-to-face interaction. For example, some people can communicate flexibly and smoothly on the online platforms; however, they feel shy and lack of self-confident during interacting with others in real life.
On the other hand, I am convincing that digital platforms bring members of society closer together. Firstly, connecting with others on the Internet is more convenient. This is primary because they may not be restricted by distance and time. Therefore, people can expand circle of relationships with other individuals all over the world. Secondly, on social media they can engage with friends on a range of topics. They can find users with similar interests, passions, and careers everywhere, as a result. Finally, nowadays people have access to a wide range of apps and games that require language skill and teamwork abilities, so these apps can provide opportunities for teenagers to improve their communication competence.
