People have differing views regarding whether streets, blocks, avenues, and public places should be entitled with famous people’s names, while others think that these places should be given more neutral names. Although both perspectives have their own merits, I believe that places should have neutral names. This essay will explain why is it important to entitle these places with simple names instead of giving them private names.
On the one hand, many people believe that streets, blocks, avenues, and public places must be named after great famous people to glorify what they gave to their countries. This is mainly because these individuals sacrified for the freedom of their countries. Therefore, when we give some streets or blocks their names, it is kind of esteem towards their sacrifying. For instance, I live in a blook, which is called ‘Larbi Ben Mhidi’, and this name refer to an Algerian fighter during the WW2.
On the hand, others argue that giving urban and residential places private names is futile since it did not reflect what the place is. In addition, they argue that some famous people’s names are difficult to memorize or to prenounce. However, when streets and public places have a simple and neutral names, it is more easier to remember and memorize them. For example, In my city, several suburbs’ names start with ‘Ain’, which means a tap, and this pattern means that this place have an excellent taps to drink.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that most palces shoud be entitled with more neutral places to preserve the importance of these places, and give an overview about what this place really famous for. A clear example of this can be seen in Algeria, where tourists report difficulties to pronounce avenues’ names because most of them are named after Algerian fighters.
