Modern technology has become an integral part of our daily lives. Some believe that they bring many positive changes, while others are convinced that technology is gradually taking control of our lives. Both points of view have their grounds, but I am closer to the first category.
On the one hand, there is a view that technology is becoming a dominant force, changing people’s habits and lifestyles, not always for the better. Addiction to smartphones and social media affects mental health, reduces concentration and impairs personal communication in real life. For example, my brother spends most of his time at the computer, which causes him to have big problems with his eyesight and influence in the team. In addition, with the development of artificial intelligence, many professions are at risk of being replaced, causing workers to lose their jobs. Thus, the development of technology has good reasons for concern.
On the other hand, technology has greatly simplified people’s lives. They make possible instant communication at a distance, access to information, online education, working from home, shopping. For example, during the quarantine in 2020, the ability to work and study online saved a huge number of people from infection, helped them leave their jobs and not abandon their studies. Medical advances have made early detection and treatment of diseases possible. Some technologies have the ability to create tedious organs for later operations. Hence, the development of technology has saved many lives.
In conclusion, in my opinion, technology in itself is not evil, it depends on how it is used. Modern medicine is one of the examples of correct development, for the benefit of mankind.
