Environmental protection has become a major concern in modern society. Opinions are divided among people while some believe that increasing the cost of diesel and petrol is the best way to protect the environment, others argue that the alternative methods can be more effective. In my opinion, although increasing the cost of fuel can reduce pollution to some extent imposing strict laws and using renewable energy sources can prove best approach.
On the one hand, increasing the cost of fuel can discourage people from purchasing private vehicles. Many people prefer commuting to work through their private cars, which can significantly increase air pollution and traffic congestion. For example, people may choose public transport to travel from one city to another due to high petrol prices. As a result, fewer private vehicles on the roads which can reduce carbon emission and air pollution. Secondly, electric vehicles may trend in such areas because it can provide more affordable milage and maintenance than conventional vehicles.
On the other hand, introducing large scale changes such as imposing strict laws and heavy fines can be an effective method. Governments can enforce huge penalties on people and factories that harm the environment. For example, factories that repeatedly releases toxic waste into a river can be banned for further production in future. In addition, authorities can promote renewable energy sources such as solar power plants and wind turbines to lower emissions and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. For instance, governments can provide affordable subsidies for commercial and industrial uses rather than constructing coal-based plants. Consequently, people will adapt eco friendly practices to limit air and water pollution.
In conclusion, although high fuel cost can reduce private vehicles on the roads and lower pollution to some extend I believe governments play a more crucial role in introducing large scale practices to protect environment from industrial pollution by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
