There is a contentious debate over whether raising the cost of fuel is the best solution to environmental issues or not. Some people believe that fuel has no direct correlation with our surroundings, while others argue that it being more expensive might lead to a cleaner planet. Despite these concerns, I am inclined to agree with this.
Firstly, increasing petrol price is the most effective method in reducing air pollution, which is a major environmental problem. This might discourage citizens from purchasing petrol for their motor vehicles, such as cars and motorbikes, hence driving them less often. As a result, less carbon dioxide, released by them, is emitted into the air, leading to cleaner air and preventing the further widening of the ozone hole – a huge environmental issue solved.
Secondly, there might be less demand for expensive fuel. This means that fuel companies may extract less from oceans, building fewer extraction sites in them, thus lowering the chances of oil spillage into them. Therefore, the marine life that was a victim of these unfortunate accidents, might be restored. Hence why I stronger believe that making fuel more expensive is eco-friendly.
On the other hand, it is claimed that increasing petrol cost is not completely solvable to global warming due to its indirect correlation. This is because the science of global warming is not understood and witnessed by everyone. However, fuel usage is one of the biggest causes of climate change even though it is not seen by the naked eye. Over the years, ever since fuel has been used, global warming has appeared and scientists proved how fuel usage has lead to global warming. Thus, fuel is negatively affecting out planet even though it is not direct.
In conclusion, while many individuals argue that increased fuel cost is not the best solution to environmental problems, I strongly agree that it is the most effective as it might lead to less pollution.
