Band 5+: Some people believe that the government should limit the amount of time children spend on digital devices. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some individuals believe that children ought to be allowed to utilise technology as much as they want. I totally disagree with that statement. I believe that excessive use of technology has a significant negative effect on children’s mental and physical development.

Over use of internet technology has a bad effect on kids mental health and causes depression, anxiety and sleep disorders. Youngsters who are addicted to play online video games and after playing when they want to come out from screen time then they feel loneliness. It has resulted in depression and anxiety. For instance, my cousin’s son who played online game Roblox and never went outside. After some time he has anxiety issues and depression because of lack of sleep and doesn’t participate in activities with friends.

Excessive utilization of gadgets like computers, laptops, mobile devices, TVs, Tablets etc cause physical development like weak eyesight. Many minors are sitting for a longer time on phones or laptops and playing video games that can generate dry eyes because of no blinking and bad posture. For example, according to medical experts around 40% of children who are spending more time on their phones or tablets can have a vision problem, dizziness and headaches.

To conclude, I personally believe that technology has a negative impact on children. It has a great potential to damage children’s both mental and physical well being. Spending more time on technology creates many problems for our wellbeing.
