Due to technological advancements, some individuals believe that the government should impose strict laws to limit children’s prolonged screen exposure. I strongly disagree with this view because, rather than imposing strict laws, parents should be primarily responsible for regulating their offspring’s screen time.
Firstly, parents are more likely aware of their children’s lifestyle, mindset and individual needs than the authorities. Children differ in terms of personality, age, and daily routines, it means limited laws may not be suitable for everyone. For example, and older child may need to spend several hours in the internet for educational purposes, whereas a young child may require a less screen exposure. Therefore, parents should establish appropriate limits according to their children’s needs and preferences, and ensure the screen time does not interfere their private zones such as sleeping time, studies or physical activities.
On the other hand, enforcing strict regulations could prevent individuals from getting benefit from technology. Digital devices are not only used for entertainment but also provide access for educational purposes such as online books, courses or interactive learning platforms. Excessive screen time may have detrimental effect on children’s physical and mental health, however if parents regulate the proper schedule for them, it will be beneficial for offspring. Completely restricting using technology through strict laws may be counterproductive. Instead, governments should raise parents’ awareness of the potential risks of excessive screen use and provide guidance on healthy digital habits.
In conclusion, although excessive screen time can negatively influence children, it also provides limitless improvement. I believe that strict government laws are not the most effective solution. Parents should primarily regulate their children’s screen time, while governments should focus on education and guidance.
