Some people think that the Government should provide subsidies to farmers to produce more fruits and vegetables on the other hand, others argue that promoting healthier eating habits through education and unhealthy food taxation would be more help. In my opinion even though both have a lot of advantages, I give upper hand to the first opinion.
Primarily promoting farmers to grow more healthier products by providing subsidies will ensure the farmers that the Government believes in them. The boosted confidence will sure produce more healthy foods for the people and the country will have better food security. Moreover, the help from the authorities will encourage more people to indulge in cultivation and agriculture which will result in increased productivity and a healthy new generation. For instance, the Israel Government is providing all the support needed for the farmers in their country has attracted many young people to follow agriculture as their profession.
Moving further, teaching healthier eating habits and imposing taxes on junk food might also help in molding a healthy lifestyle. The Universities and Schools could introduce nutritious diets to students and encourage them to follow. Additionally, even though the increased taxes could control the junk intakes for a while it might not hold on in the future. For example: The government of India have introduced higher tax for liquor and tobacco but it was only a mere success and disappointed many people.
To put it in a nutshell, I think subsidizing the agriculture department will not only help to have better food security but also it can attract many young one’s to follow agriculture. Furthermore, the students should also be taught about healthy nutrition in Schools and Colleges but the taxation is may be not a logical solution.
