It is believed that the government should provide the elderly with a well-prepared healthcare program and financial support, while the others say workers should save money on their own for later life after retirement. Personally, I believe that each suggestion has valid reasons so that we should do both of them.
To begin with, governments should take care of old people since they take responsibility in ensuring their citizens’ well-being. Aging will lead to a poorer immune system and numerous health problems, which can even lead to public health issues or pandemics if they are not treated immediately. Consequently, many people may suffer from decreased living standards. Besides that, people who have retired may no longer have any sources of income, which means they might have financial burdens if they do not have pensions or support from the government. Therefore, authorities should allocate money for taking care of the elderly.
In addition, individuals should save money when they are still working to be more independent in later life. The future is uncertain and no one would guarantee that governments will have substantial financial resources to take care of their citizens. For example, many countries have undergone poor economic conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic, which means they would not have enough resources to provide for the elderly. This clearly shows the importance of being more independent and why individuals should not rely solely on governmental subsidies or support.
In conclusion, I believe that governments should allocate more financial resources for the elderly and residents should also save money to ensure a better life in the future.
