After the COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions have eased, allowing people to travel across the world. As a result, the number of tourists in many countries has dramatically increased. Some people believe that tourism has positive effects on countries, and I firmly agree that it is beneficial.
In today’s world, social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok have become an essential part of our daily lives. As a result, many people can learn about culture, language, and history, regardless of their physical location, through online content, which can be seen as a form of soft power. For instance, Muay Thai is a martial art that has gained popularity among many foreigners who became familiar with it through the media. As a result, many of these individuals travel globally as tourists to watch stage fights or learn Muay Thai, which can also contribute to the preservation of the tradition.
Furthermore, the economy has experienced growth as tourism brings a significant amount of revenue to local businesses. For example, many visitors spend their vacations in Chiang Mai to enjoy its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. For this reason, local businesses there have generated substantial income.
Nonetheless, there are also negative impacts, as some individuals lack awareness of their environmental responsibilities. Some tourists leave garbage on the beach, which can be a major factor in destroying the environment. Moreover, there are visitors who cause inconvenience for local people; for example, some individuals may sexually harass women on the streets. As a result, there is a possibility that these women may become traumatized by such behavior.
In conclusion, although tourism can have negative effects on local businesses or the environment, it also brings significant benefits, including economic growth and the preservation of cultural traditions.
